Montgomery: In-person help for residents needing assistance with unemployment claims is coming to an end as a new phone appointment system will be established for the new year. The Department of Labor said it is ending in-person service at the Crump Senior Center because of health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus. The last dates for such service will be Monday and Tuesday. Appointments for those days will be available on the ADOL website www.labor.alabama.gov. Claimants can call (800) 361-4524 beginning Sunday after 5 p.m. until midnight on Sundays through Thursday to schedule a call-back for the next day to set up an appointment. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - There are new filings in a lawsuit involving the Vigo County Jail and its overcrowding issues after a COVID-19 outbreak this month.
Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson requested information from Vigo County leaders after receiving a report from them concerning the outbreak at the jail. She wants a response to the following questions by December 30.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) A federal judge has denied
a request from 15 Indianapolis bar owners to stop coronavirus restrictions put in place by Mayor Joe Hogsett and the county’s public health department.
In September, the group of bar, restaurant and nightclub owners asked a judge to rule the local health orders unconstitutional. They said their businesses are dealing with revenue loss and layoffs, and may have to close.
Indianapolis has had coronavirus restrictions of various measure in place since March.
Marion County Public Health Department’s latest order requires bars and nightclubs to have 25% capacity indoors and restaurants to have 50% capacity with social distancing. All of those plus food retailers must be closed from midnight to 5 a.m.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) A federal judge wants more answers regarding a COVID-19 outbreak at the Vigo County Jail.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit against Sheriff John Plasse and other Vigo County officials earlier this on behalf of inmate Jauston Huerta after more than 100 inmates tested positive for the virus, including an inmate who died.
Vigo County officials filed a status report Dec. 18 at the request of Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson, answering various questions regarding COVID-19 at the jail.
According to the court documents, 108 inmates tested positive for the coronavirus. Inmates who tested positive are housed separately from those who tested negative, and the entire jail is on lockdown to prevent further spread.
