HIBBING, Minn.-Northlanders wanted to go bigger for this year’s Dylan Festival.
The plans have been in the works for a few years making it the “Year of Dylan” starting from his birthday in late May and ending on the same date in 2022.
It all kicks off with the Hibbing Dylan projects monument honoring Bob Dylan followed by a proclamation of the year devoted to the celebrity May 22. That will be held the same day as Duluth’s Dylan Fest which goes from May 22nd-30th.

St. Louis County is set to formally proclaim the Year of Dylan on May 4th to celebrate the Duluth and Hibbing native’s 80th birthday later in the month.
The Duluth Dylan Fest will bookend the year of celebrating Bob Dylan that will start on his 80th Birthday, May 24th 2021, and end on his 81st birthday, May 24th, 2022.
Unlike last year, the music will be able to be celebrated with live performances.
This includes multiple performances at Earth Rider Festival Field in Superior like the
Duluth Dylan Fest Party on the 24th and performances by this year’s artists recording the fifth in the series of

Born in Duluth and raised in Hibbing, Minn., the musician, writer and Nobel laureate hits the milestone birthday May 24, and St. Louis County is expected to proclaim that day until his next birthday The Year of Dylan.
A Dylan celebration needed to be big, said Zane Bail, a member of Duluth Dylan Fest, a grassroots fan group. Given the cultural icon he is in the U.S. and around the world, he deserved more than a day.
The proclamation, which organizers say will be read in front of his childhood homes in Duluth and Hibbing, lauds the cultural giant for his 60-year musical career and points to his many connections to northeastern Minnesota.
