FOR some, it felt as chilly as the North Pole â and certainly the appearance of some festive-looking reindeer may have left a few folk scratching their heads in Alness last week.
Christmas hadnât quite come early, but festive spirits were certainly high as The Place made full use of its temporary stretch tent in a Covid-friendly outdoor location in the Easter Ross town.

A GRIEVING daughter who lost her loving stepdad down âa dark, destructive pathâ after a double family tragedy is urging others battling depression to seek urgent help.
Trevor Macphee (45) was found dead at a friendâs house in Alness last week.
Police are treating the death as âunexplained, but not suspiciousâ, but it is believed to be drug-related.

In an era of social distancing and warnings against indoor gatherings, outdoor public spaces are playing a more crucial role for local families and community groups.
And while there’s no shortage of preserved land, hiking trails and parkland in Southold, there are few options for outdoor meeting areas.
That could change with a new pavilion proposed for Tasker Park in Peconic.
Recreation supervisor Janet Douglass presented plans for the 20-foot by 40-foot structure at a work session last Tuesday, saying that even before the pandemic, multiple groups vying for public meeting space had put a strain on indoor recreation facilities.
