The Opelika Songwriters Festival is back on track for 2021, with a lineup of 40 artists that includes The War and Treaty, Mindy Smith, Shawn Mullins, Kim Richey, Sarah Lee Guthrie, Jeff Black, Charlie Mars, Grayson Capps and Dark Water, a side project for Kristian Bush of Sugarland.

Teela Reid is right to extol the new school curriculum that will tell what really happened to First Nations people from the invasion to this day, but there needs to be a post-school curriculum to guide truth and justice commissions to tell all Australians what happened as proposed by the Uluru Statement from the Heart (“Truth-telling begins in school at least”, April 30). To their credit, the Victorian government has established such a commission. It is to be hoped that all other jurisdictions will follow suit.

But the gran-of-three, who classes herself as brown British , helped by her sister Catherine Arrowsmith, is now on a quest for recognition of her achievement as a pioneer and acknowledgement that she was Britain s first black female Olympian.
Catherine said: I think her story should be recognised. She paved the way and was a pioneer.
Anita said: The journey I have had was quite different and difficult. Some people had it quite easy and were able to train or go to London for meets. I trained after work three days a week and they let me off early sometimes but I was doing piecework so it was very tiring.

New ‘Ten at the Door’ album raises money for Alabama venues during COVID

A new installment of the “Ten at the Door” series has been released via Bandcamp, featuring music by Eric Watters, Timber, Phantom Limb, Janet Simpson, Show Dog, Holy Youth, Shaheed & DJ Supreme and more.
A total of 20 tracks are included on the second album. Other artists include Penny Circus, Will Stewart, Kelsey Head, Buckle Bunny, Dree Leer and J. Patrick Reed.
