Janesville city manager describes 2020 as year of adaptability

JANESVILLE When recapping 2020, City Manager Mark Freitag kept coming back to one of the city’s core values: adaptability. Freitag delivered the seventh annual State of the City address through a prerecorded video posted to JATV’s YouTube page Thursday night. The city manager echoed his familiar sentiment, that the state of the city is strong, but also “truly resilient” after a year that introduced the coronavirus pandemic, hosted a historic election, and forced the nation to pay attention to myriad social and racial issues. He applauded city leaders for adapting to new work environments and helping the community adapt to changes in services and programming.

Milton ambulance purchase, fire department future unknown

MILTON The uncertain future of Milton’s fire department is casting doubt on the purchase of a replacement ambulance. The Milton Town Board voted Jan. 11 to not move forward with the purchase of an ambulance until the future of the fire department is known. The Milton City Council has not yet discussed the topic. City Finance Director Dan Nelson said, “We were going to discuss it as we close out the books for 2020.” The town and city, joint owners of the fire department, each would need to pay half of the cost if a new ambulance is purchased. That cost after equipment is added is estimated at $142,500.
