BAR HARBOR Learn what makes the animals that live on Mount Desert Island and in Acadia National Park so special during a virtual program with an Acadia National Park ranger on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m., hosted by The Jesup Memorial Library.
During this interactive program, participants will learn more about six animals that live in Maine. The talk will focus on the special adaptations each animal has made that allow it to live and flourish both on land and in the sea. Some questions that will be answered include: What animal has a tongue nearly as long as its body? What animal breathes through its skin? What allows some animals to move so quickly through their habitats?
Exploring the Jesup’s medallions
BAR HARBOR The Jesup Memorial Library’s building features a series of medallions both outside and inside the historic building. The medallions include a three-masted ship, a rose surrounded by a belt, a crab catching a butterfly, a dolphin entwined around an anchor, a pelican feeding three chicks as well as other symbols accompanied by cryptic phrases.
Join the Jesup for a virtual panel discussion with Carl Little, author and art critic; Véronique Plesch, professor of Art History at Colby College; and Kat Stefko, director of the George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives at Bowdoin College, as they discuss the medallions in a Zoom presentation, Monday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
Jesup seeks community input
BAR HARBOR The Jesup Memorial Library is soliciting input on various aspects of the library’s planned addition as well as how to continue to offer services and support now and in the future. During a virtual community session on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m., the Jesup is looking for ideas on how it should implement both sustainability and technology changes.
Some of the questions to be answered include: What technology trends and opportunities should the Jesup incorporate in its next phase of service? How does the library make the future addition as sustainable as possible? And, what steps does the library take now to make these plans possible? The Jesup would like to hear from different community members on these topics to receive a broad range of ideas. After the initial meeting, there will be opportunities for small working groups to focus on specific topics.
