Giants salvage Cardinals series with rubber game win

Mike Yastrzemski and Donovan Solano had RBI doubles, Tyler Rogers pitched out of an eighth-inning jam and the San Francisco Giants avoided a sweep from visiting St. Louis Cardinals with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night.
Left-hander Alex Wood (8-3) won his third consecutive decision with seven innings of one-run ball and Darin Ruf provided late insurance with a two-run homer as the Giants scratched out a win after 5-3 and 6-5 losses to open the series.
After an RBI double by Nolan Arenado was offset by a bases-loaded hit batsman drawn by Jason Vosler in the bottom of the first inning, the Giants took a 2-1 lead in the second on Yastrzemski s 33rd RBI of the season.

Cardinals hang on for 6-5 win over Giants

Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer and Paul Goldschmidt delivered a two-run single to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-5 victory over the host San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
Edmundo Sosa also homered and Yadier Molina added a run-scoring single as the Cardinals defeated the Giants for the second straight night to open a three-game series.
Brandon Crawford had four hits and three RBIs and Mike Yastrzemski had three hits and drove in one for San Francisco, which has lost six of its past nine games. Giants All-Star catcher Buster Posey (left thumb) sat out his second consecutive game.

SAN FRANCISCO Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt no longer play for National League West clubs, but they haven’t lost their ability to terrorize the Giants.
Arenado launched a two-run home run and Goldschmidt added a pair of RBIs against Johnny Cueto to propel the Cardinals to their second straight victory over the Giants, 6-5, on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.
All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford went 4-for-5 and drove in his club’s first three runs, but timely hits proved elusive for the rest of the Giants’ lineup for most of the night. San Francisco, which is currently without Buster Posey, Evan Longoria, Brandon Belt and Tommy La Stella, finished 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.
