(CN)   Two men are in critical condition Tuesday morning after being shot by a 38-year-old Navy medic at Riverside Technology Park in Maryland. While the medic has not been identified, U.S. Navy officials say he drove from the Riverside Technology Park to the military base Fort Detrick, about 10 minutes away, where he was shot and killed. Fort Detrick as well as Frederick-area schools and colleges had been placed on lockdown after the police were alerted to the shooting shortly after 8 a.m. According to ABC news, base officials have confirmed that the shooter was stationed at Fort Detrick.

Talley released the information at a news conference and police identified the suspect as Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, 38, a Petty Officer Third Class assigned to Fort Detrick who lived off-base in Frederick. Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando said Woldesenbet used a rifle in the shooting at a Navy-related facility in the office park.

The man entered a business at the Riverside Tech Park, causing people inside to flee, but it was unclear if the shooting took place inside or outside, Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando said. After the shooting, the medic drove about 10 minutes to Fort Detrick, where he was shot by base personnel, Lando said at a news conference. The U.S. Navy released an initial statement saying there was an “active shooter incident” at Fort Detrick “involving U.S. sailors” and that the shooter, a Navy medic assigned to the base, was killed.
