Rip currents are lurking along Alabama and northwest Florida beaches, and it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere anytime soon.
The National Weather Service in Mobile has a four-day rip current forecast for its local forecast area, and forecasters believe the rip current risk will remain high into the weekend.
Gulf Power said almost all of the residences without power occurred after midnight Saturday.
The storm ripped off the roof of a Pensacola brewery, downed trees and power lines, and cut off power to more than 57,000 homes at one point.
Wind speeds reached 50 to 60 miles per hour in areas throughout both counties, according to Jason Beaman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama.
Four to 5 inches of rain were dumped on the Pensacola metro area during a very short but heavy burst of rain at about 7 a.m. The storm also dropped 4 to 5 inches of rain across Santa Rosa County.
