COLORADO SPRINGS â The ramp metering lights on I-25 have been active for a couple of months now and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) says the data collected so far shows the lights are being effective.
CDOT said that in addition to reducing the number of crashes, the meters have led to fewer traffic jams and quicker commutes.
Colorado Department of Transportation recently announced plans to remove the signal at U.S. 285 and Park County Road 43A, which is north of Bailey.
The press release stated that âRemoval of the traffic signal at CR 43A allows traffic on U.S. 285 to flow through the area, removing the traffic backups currently occurring.âÂ
Removal of the light would provide safer, more efficient routes, decrease possible crash locations at the intersection and free right turns at CR 43A allowing for improved traffic flow, according to CDOT.Â
CDOT said that the $1.3 million project will begin construction in the spring and will include the addition of an acceleration lane at CR 64 in Bailey, near the lumber yard and post office. Â
