Lovejoy to vote on closing an elementary campus, as challenges brought on by enrollment, COVID-19 mount
The decision to close Lovejoy Elementary is part of a raft of recommendations made by the district’s administration to cover a $3.1 million shortfall this year and a projected $6 million shortfall for 2021-22.

Anticipating a multimillion dollar shortfall, Lovejoy ISD trustees will vote Sunday evening on whether to close the district’s flagship elementary campus.
The decision part of a raft of recommendations made by the district’s administration to cover a $3.1 million shortfall this year and a projected $6 million shortfall for 2021-22 was delayed for almost a week as trustees asked for more time to contemplate the closure of Lovejoy Elementary.
Dressing up and parading down the street seemed like a fun, regenerative idea to the organizers. For the lucky few dozen gathered last weekend at Exall Park, the lively afternoon procession to the Latino Cultural Center was a cathartic experience as well.
“How long has it been since you felt like that?” preached grandmaster Michelle Gibson when all the hootin’ and hollerin’ was done. A New Orleans transplant steeped in the culture of celebratory parades, Gibson choreographed the whole affair.
Organized by Cara Mía Theatre and Teatro Dallas in the first co-production by the long-running companies,
¡Soltar! (“let go!” in Spanish) was a chance to glimpse what a normal social gathering might look like. Or at least one meant to commemorate spring with traffic-stopping masked figures in bright costumes dancing to an upbeat brass band.

DALLAS - Six people were found fatally shot in a suburban Dallas home early Monday after police say two brothers made a pact to kill four family members and themselves.
Officers in Allen went to the home for a welfare check at around 1 a.m. after getting a call from a friend of one of the brothers who feared he was suicidal, said police Sgt. Jon Felty.

Felty said one of the brothers wrote a lengthy post on social media in which he said he and his brother had a plan to kill their family members and then themselves. He also wrote that all of his decisions were based on weighing pros and cons, including the decision to kill his family.
