A New University for the West and North-West, a Step Closer
The West and North-West have taken a step closer to establishing a new university for the region.
The Connacht Ulster Alliance (CUA) of GMIT, LYIT and IT Sligo today (Friday 21st May 2021) submitted a formal application to the Minister for Further & Higher Education, Simon Harris TD, for designation as a Technological University (TU).
This is a significant day for all CUA students, staff and stakeholders, and marks the culmination of several years’ work. The proposed TU for the West and North-West will be one of the largest multi-campus universities across the island of Ireland.

From your time at CSU, what are you most proud of?
I am most proud of being able to accomplish what no one in my family has done before. College was uncharted territory for all of us, but with the endless support from my family, friends, scholarship donors, and faculty, I was able to quickly adapt to a brand-new environment and have a great experience over the last four years.
Juan Venegas
Major: Chemical and biological engineering
I am proud of being a Scott Scholar, being a part of the Dean’s List every semester, participating in undergraduate research, and making many valuable connections with my peers and mentors that I hope to retain as I journey into the “real world” as a chemical and biological engineer.
