ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (CNN) - New details that have come out about the fatal deputy shooting of Andrew Brown Jr., have revealed the arrest warrant he was being served was for cocaine possession.
CNN s Jason Carroll reports that he spoke with a family member of Brown s. He said she did not want to be identified but that she witnessed the shooting and disputes the Pasquotank County District Attorney s account of what happened on April 21.
She told Carroll that she lives on the same block as Brown and that she took pictures after the shooting, showing the Sheriffâs truck parked in Brownâs driveway. The same truck appears on surveillance footage obtained by CNN. The truck sped by moments before the shooting.
North Carolina sheriff identifies deputies involved in fatal shooting of Andrew Brown Jr.
The Pasquotank County sheriff on Thursday identified three deputies he said fired shots at Andrew Brown Jr. and four other deputies involved in the incident in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, who have returned to duty from administrative leave.
Sheriff Tommy Wooten said in a news release that he looked at body camera footage and other evidence.
“It’s obvious that four of the deputies never fired their weapons and deserve to be reinstated to active duty. More investigation is necessary into the three deputies who did fire their weapons and they will remain on administrative leave,” he said.
Andrew Brown Jr.’s family and DA offer different accounts of his car’s movements during the fatal police shooting
The family of Andrew Brown Jr. and the local district attorney offered different accounts Wednesday as to what led to the fatal police shooting of the Black man last week in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
The family and their attorneys have been allowed to see some of the police bodycam footage and a judge ruled Wednesday the family can view more of them, but Judge Jeff Foster denied media requests to make the videos public for at least 30 days.
Pasquotank County District Attorney Andrew Womble said officers fired when the car Brown was driving went toward them. Brown’s family and attorneys, who had watched a 20-second video snippet earlier this week, said he was driving away to save his life from gunfire.
