COVID-19 pushes us to New Collaboration
As we all sat at home during the spring of 2020, our favorite balloon events getting cancelled left and right, a few of us got chatting about the dream of bringing competitive ballooning back to Eastern Canada.
The day after the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu International Balloon Festivalin Quebec was cancelled, we hatched our plan. It would be a low-tech, informal activity with no publicity, and we’d make it as COVID-proof as possible.
It was but one of a number of opportunities Canadian balloonists took advantage of in what was a difficult year on families, businesses and events at home and around the world. It led to a change in venue for the Canadian Hot Air Balloon (HAB) Championship and to better connections with balloonists across the country.

Reaching Out Because We Can and
Servants Of The Two Hearts reached a significant milestone this month with the
10,000th meal donated to the local community.
The relationship between the charity groups and
Sandown Greyhounds began during the second lockdown of 2020. Rather than disposing of stored food, the club reached out to the
City of Greater Dandenong and were directed to the two charities who help distribute meals and other items to members of the community in need.
“We are so privileged to be partners with
Sandown Greyhounds. Thousands of meals are cooked by them that we personally deliver to our friends out there – we call them our friends because to us, they are,” said

Campaign launched to stop illegal dumping in Blue Mountains
Blue Mountains City Council, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has launched a new public education campaign to raise awareness of illegal dumping in our region.
The campaign will be rolled out through July and August and will be seen on buses as well on social media, in the form of a campaign video.
When members of community illegally drop items such as couches, mattresses, fridges and construction waste into reserves and bushland, the environmental, social and financial costs to the community are profound.
Fortunately, there are teams that are working hard to combat this problem.
