Remember last Friday? This article? The one where I pretty much debunked the Kris Bryant to the Mets rumors that were flying?
During a talk with reporters on the day Cubs pitchers and catchers officially reported to spring camp in Mesa, Arizona, President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer essentially confirmed that debunking:
When asked about the recent Bryant/Mets rumors, Hoyer said the reports were inaccurate. Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) February 16, 2021
You might see these rumors breathlessly reported at some other websites. Personally, I rarely deal in them, because most of them are exactly what Hoyer said they are: “inaccurate.” One exception to that was the Yu Darvish rumors from last December, which cropped up quickly and turned out to be true.

Jed Hoyer said on Tuesday that the Cubs were working on bringing another reliever into the fold, and here he is:
Brandon Workman is nearing a deal with the Cubs that guarantees him $1 million, sources told The Athletic. Workman, the former Red Sox reliever, has a chance to earn up to $3 million out of the Cubs bullpen. Patrick Mooney (@PJ Mooney) February 17, 2021
Brandon Workman is 32. He was a solid reliever for the Red Sox from 2017-19, in fact in 2019 he had an outstanding season with a 1.88 ERA, 1.033 WHIP and 104 strikeouts in 71⅔ innings. He recorded 16 saves and posted 3.2 bWAR.
