Italy has sent a team heavily depleted by COVID-19 positive tests and injuries to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship that are due to start in the Latvian capital of Riga on Friday (May 21).
But all those who left for Latvia had been recently vaccinated against COVID-19, becoming one of the first sports teams in Italy to receive immunisation.
Many of the team’s key players, and also its head coach Greg Ireland, are currently isolating after 15 COVID-19 positives showed up within the group, although none are believed to be seriously affected.
Goalkeeper Andreas Barnard and forwards Tommaso Traversa, Michele Marchetti and Matthia are definitely out of the Championships, which are scheduled to finish on June 6.
More than 10 Olympic-style boxing matches including five heavyweight bouts are scheduled for the card, which will honor the heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release from the Baltimore Boxing Club.
After enduring a blowout loss to Georgia Tech on Friday night, Canes baseball rebounded on Saturday with a blowout win of their own, celebrating Senior Night with a pre-game ceremony and a dominant 10-3 win over the Yellow Jackets.
With the regular season winding down to its final games, every game – especially against conference rivals – is crucial as the 2021 ACC Baseball Championship draws ever closer.
Going into Saturday night’s action, Georgia Tech led the Coastal Division with a 19-12 conference record, and the Hurricanes were positioned a few spots lower in the division standings at 15-15. At an improved 16-15 conference record, Miami has climbed to third place in the division. They now only trail Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech, and are a half-game above Virginia Tech and North Carolina.

Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher said his peace on the program’s rivalry with the Texas Longhorns on KLBJ News Radio in Austin over the weekend. Per Fisher’s take on the situation, it seems as though the rivalry has no chance of renewal in the next 10 years.
“Right now, that decision [to end the rivalry] was made a long time ago, and we have no control over it,” Fisher said in the interview, per 247Sports. “There were some things done there that are water under the bridge and I don’t know what all of that was, but I know right now there’s no way [the Lone Star Showdown] is going to happen for 10 years or so.”
