TEMPE Fueled by four two-run homers, No. 13 ASU routed No. 8 Arizona 8-1 in the second game of the weekend series.
It clinches ASU’s first series victory over the Wildcats since 2015. The in-state rivals will play a non-conference game at 8 p.m. before wrapping up the series Sunday at 1 p.m.

Mariah Lopez, who surrendered three homers in an outing for the second time this season. Hackbarth kicked off the scoring in the first inning with a moonshot to left.

TEMPE Arizona softball lost a nail-biter to ASU on Friday and their All-American center fielder to injury.
Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza grounded out with the bases loaded as the Sun Devils escaped with a 4-3 win, and she immediately crumbled to the ground after running through first base on the bang-bang play.
As ASU celebrated the win, APC clutched her knee for several minutes before being helped up and off the field by trainers. Stunned, the entire team stood and watched from the outfield grass. UA coaches and players were unavailable for comment, so there won’t be an update on APC’s status for at least another day.

To say Arizona softball has dominated the Territorial Cup Series with Arizona State lately might be an understatement. The Sun Devils haven’t won a series against their in-state rivals since 2015 and the Wildcats swept the most recent meeting in 2019 without allowing a single run across three games.
Following the nine-game road trip that saw Arizona struggle against UCF, Florida State and Washington pitching, the bats from Tucson are hot again.
No Easy Out One Through Nine
Anyone that follows softball knows about the Wildcats’ core that includes Olympian Dejah Mulipola, potential future all-time home run queen Jessie Harper and multi-time All-American Alyssa Palomino.
