Jessie Diggins places 15th in 15k race at Nordic world ski championships

For the second race in a row, Jessie Diggins got the effort she wanted but not the result. The Afton skier finished 15th in Saturday s 15-kilometer skiathlon at the Nordic world ski championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, a placing she called super disappointing given her preparation.
Diggins was the top American finisher. Her time of 40 minutes, 35 seconds for the race which combines a 7.5k classic and a 7.5k freestyle was 1:59.5 behind winner Therese Johaug of Norway.
The weather was unusually warm again, with temperatures in the 40s creating challenging conditions for athletes and for the technicians who wax the skis.

Most athletes find the more they win, the happier they become. Jessie Diggins sees things the other way around: The happier she is, the more likely she is to win. Happiness is fast, Diggins said last week from her training base in Davos, Switzerland. I feel like I can dig deeper than anyone else out there when I m happy. I can really, really suffer for the 26 minutes of a race.
Engadin to host next FIS Cross-Country World Cup stage after Oslo’s withdrawal Sunday, 21 February 2021
The International Ski Federation (FIS) has announced Engadin in Switzerland as the host of the next leg of the Cross-Country World Cup.
Engadin is now scheduled to stage the mass start races on March 13, followed by the pursuit contests on March 14.
The Swiss resort replaces Oslo as host of the men’s and women’s competitions after the Norwegian capital was forced to withdraw due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Norway is unable to stage any FIS events planned for next month after entry restrictions were extended by the country’s Government to combat the spread of COVID-19.
