APARTMENT COMPLEX FIRE: 29 people displaced in Dauphin County

More than two dozen people were displaced by an apartment fire Friday morning in Dauphin County.The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. at the Pennswood Apartments & Townhomes along Amherst Drive in Lower Paxton Township.Sixteen apartments were damaged, and 29 people were forced out of their homes.No one was injured. It could have been a lot worse. It s a bad time of the day. Most people are sleeping. Smoke detectors obviously help and just the awareness of people to know something s wrong – fast response from the police and fire to make sure everybody makes it out safely, Colonial Park Fire Chief John Fogg said.The Red Cross is helping the affected residents.The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Susquehanna Valley congressmen vote against increasing COVID-19 relief payments

All five members of the Susquehanna Valley s delegation to the U.S. House voted against increasing COVID-19 relief payments.Rep. Dan Meuser (R-9)Rep. Scott Perry (R-10)Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-11)Rep. Fred Keller (R-12)Rep. John Joyce (R-13)President Donald Trump has been pushing for $2,000 payments. The House voted 275-134 Monday to meet the president s demand to increase the $600 stimulus checks that were part of a coronavirus relief and government spending bill.The decision about the payments is now in the hands of the Senate.House votes to override president s veto of defense billThe House also voted 322-87 Monday to override the president s veto of the defense policy bill.Smucker, Perry and Joyce voted against overriding the veto.Meuser and Keller voted in favor of the override.The Senate is expected to consider overriding the veto sometime this week.The defense bill authorizes more than $740 billion in military programs and construction, and it affirms 3% pay raises for U.S.
