Sunderland 0-1 Blackpool
Sunderlandâs frustrating run of form continued at the Stadium of Light when Blackpool, fellow contenders for a play-off place, left with three points.
The Black Cats, who sit five points above seventh-place with two matches remaining, now know it is mathematically impossible to finish in an automatic promotion place.
The focus is on ending a seven-match winless run to secure a place in the Sky Bet League One play-offs next month. A victory at Plymouth on Saturday would do that.
But this was a disappointing night. Sullay Kaikaiâs stunning volley in the 56th minute proved enough to separate the two teams on the night.

Lee Johnson and Luke O Nien have been nominated for March s Sky Bet EFL awards.
During a solid month in League One, Johnson guided Sunderland into third in the table, earning five wins from six and conceding just once.
The Head Coach is up for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month award, alongside Simon Grayson, Grant McCann and Steve Evans.
The impressive defensive record from the Lads has also been recognised by O Nien s nomination for League One s Player of the Month, following some excellent performances alongside Dion Sanderson at the heart of Johnson s back line.
O Nien has been put forward along with competitors Jerry Yates, Vadaine Oliver and Sammie Szmodics.
