Two Shreveport City Council members speak in opposition of pay increases

The anticipated crowd of speakers in opposition of the proposed gun legislation and pay increases for Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins and the Shreveport City Council did not materialize at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Councilmen James Green and Grayson Boucher, however, did speak in opposition of the pay increases that were introduced Tuesday. A 67% increase is proposed for council members, taking their annual salary from $15,000 to $25,000. The increase in the salary for council members, if approved, becomes effective Dec. 31, 2022, Green stated his objection, saying what they do is not a job but a service. “Four votes will pass this but that does not make it right,” Green said adding he will be voting no on the proposal. “I’m not up here for the money. The pay was intended as a stipend and not a salary.”
