Saskatchewan is reaching out to take care of India, sending ventilators to the COVID-ravaged country on Wednesday.
India is facing a bad situation, with record COVID case numbers and a health-care system overwhelmed with too many patients and not enough resources.
On Wednesday morning, a plane was loaded up in Regina with ventilators to be sent to India to help.
“Saskatchewan always takes care of their neighbours; sometimes our neighbours are around the world. And we have a great relationship with the community of India in Saskatchewan and throughout Saskatchewan and we wanted to be able to do our part,” Health Minister Paul Merriman said.
Saskatchewan is an exporting province, and it will be even more important to diversify and grow our export markets coming out of the global COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring a strong economic recovery here at home in the months and years ahead, Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said. These new trade and investment offices will expand our international network and enhance opportunities to increase the value of our exports by 50 per cent, as well as increase the number of international markets to which Saskatchewan exports more than $1 billion, in support of our ambitious Growth Plan goals. The UK is a strategic location for connectivity throughout the European Union (EU), and London is one of the largest international financial centres in the world. A Saskatchewan United Kingdom office will provide the opportunity to seek investment within the UK and Europe. The government is announcing four new trade and investment offices are going to be set up in London, Dubai, Mexico City and Ho Chi Minh City.
In a release, the government says these priority markets will give Saskatchewan a stronger regional presence in the United Kingdom (UK) and Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Latin America, and a heightened focus on key markets in Southeast Asia. It will also complement four offices already established in Japan, India, Singapore and China

Ventilators from Saskatchewan are now winging their way to India.
Statistics Canada released job numbers for April 2021 which shows Saskatchewan had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada and led the nation in month-to-month job growth. Month-to-month seasonally adjusted employment increased by 9,500 (+1.7 per cent) from March 2021 and ranked first among the provinces in terms of percentage change. Saskatchewan gained 58,500 jobs compared with the same period last year. This represents an increase of 11.9 per cent. Saskatchewan was tied for the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 6.6 per cent, down from 7.3 per cent in March and down from 11.2 per cent a year ago. Saskatchewan s rate was well below the national average of 8.1 per cent (seasonally adjusted).
