HOSPITALITY businesses across Southampton are expected to receive a boost in trade as England take on Italy in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final. After Wednesday’s hard fought victory over Denmark, fans poured out of the city’s bars and pubs to celebrate in the streets. Fans sang and danced to ‘Three Lions’ and ‘Sweet Caroline’ and now many venues are expected to be fully booked again as the tournament reaches its finale. The city’s Business Improvement District (BID), Go!Southampton has said if England are to win, that will “mark a proper beginning to our summer”. Speaking to the Echo, executive director of Go!Southampton, Giles Semper urged residents to help hospitality businesses as they recover from the pandemic.

SPEED limits of 20mph could be implemented across Southampton under plans by the city council. Calls have been made recently for the limit to be brought in on highly residential areas of the city with road safety being branded as a big problem in the area. Now though, civic chiefs say they are planning to implement the 20mph restriction in several roads around the city as part of existing projects, as well as future schemes. Deputy leader of Southampton City Council and cabinet member for growth, Councillor Jeremy Moulton has revealed that areas such as around St Marks School, Bedford Place, the Flowers Estate, Lobelia Road, Woolston and Peartree could see the limits brought in.
