Germany’s Tanks Will Soon Get World-class Protection From Israel
Berlin is going all-in on Tel Aviv’s mighty Trophy defense system.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense recently announced via social media post that an agreement reached between the German Ministry of Defense and Israel’s Rafael defense technology company to mate their Trophy active protection system to Leopard 2 tanks. “The Israel Ministry of Defense and German Federal Ministry of Defense signed a G-to-G agreement to supply @RAFAELdefense TROPHY active protection system to the German military for their fleet of LEOPARD 2 tanks,” the post stated.
The Leopard 2 represents what is currently the pinnacle of German tank design and is considered one of the most capable European tanks currently in production. It is in service not just with the German Bundeswehr but also with a dozen other European countries, and even including some non-Europeans and non-NATO members like Chile, Indonesia, and Singapore.

U.S. Army s Abrams tank is fitted with Israeli Trophy Active Protection System
Israel’s Rafael Advanced Systems will provide Trophy tank protection systems to Germany for equipping them on the army’s Leopard 2 tanks.
The contract signed between Israel s Ministry of Defense and the German Federal Ministry of Defense also includes tank equipment, interceptors, spares parts and operational and technical training.
Rafael s Trophy system is fitted on Israel s Merkava Mark 4 tanks and U.S. Army’s Abrams tanks.
The Trophy system creates a neutralization bubble around the vehicle. It detects, classifies and engages all known chemical energy (CE) threats – including recoilless rifles, ATGMs, AT rockets, HEAT tank rounds, and RPGs. It increases the lethality of a formation/force, successfully neutralizing the enemy s anti-tank teams.

Israeli Defence Ministry has signed a deal to sell protection systems to German LEOPARD 2 tanks, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The deal was signed between the Israeli Defence Ministry and the German Federal Ministry of Defense and outlined the sale of Rafael s TROPHY active protection system to the German military.
Israel s Defence Minister Benny Gantz said: Once again, we see the appreciation that leading security institutions around the world have for Israel s innovation and technology… The TROPHY is first and foremost a life-saving measure. It is the product of Israel s groundbreaking defense industry.
