Back on track: Palmer Brewery reopens Raton bar, readies Old Town location

The brewery, cider house and distillery owners were busy working on a new taproom in Old Town and also opened Gate City Craft Bar in Raton a few days before the first shutdown due to the pandemic, a year ago. But the doors open again in Raton at limited capacity, and the taproom in Old Town is tentatively scheduled to open in April. The brewery and distillery acquired the Old Town space in April 2020, but the COVID pandemic put plans to open behind schedule.

2021 is barely underway, but it s already clear that summer festivals in Milwaukee will be affected by the coronavirus pandemic, for a second straight year. When the crisis began last March, some events were postponed, but ultimately, nearly every in-person fair and festival in the area was called off for 2020  in many cases, for the first time ever.  COVID-19 is still a major health threat, and mass gatherings have the potential to become super-spreader events. But circumstances this year are different in one crucial way the vaccine rollout is underway.  That offers some hope that traditional summer events may be able to go on this year, to some degree. But with health experts predicting that herd immunity through vaccinations won t be achieved until late summer at the earliest, we already know this won t be a typical summer.

Festa Italiana in Milwaukee canceled for a second year due to COVID-19 A second major ethnic festival in Milwaukee has been called off for the second year in a row. Festa Italiana will not take place again in 2021, the Italian Community Center Board of Directors announced in a press release Friday, due to ongoing complications from the coronavirus pandemic. “COVID-19 has impacted virtually every business and industry across the country. Around the world festivals, sporting events, conferences, and community celebrations have been canceled, or postponed, due to lingering effects of this virus,” Joe Emanuele, president of the Italian Community Center and Festa director, said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Festa Italiana in Milwaukee is among the festivals that will have to wait until next year.”
