US President Joe Biden is tipped to bring the US back into the fold tomorrow in what will be his first appearance among world leaders since he came to power in January. He will attend the annual Munich Security Conference on Friday - this year virtually. Mr Biden previously made in-person trips to the conference as Vice-President under Barack Obama in 2009 and 2015.

Germany is embroiled in a third COVID-19 lockdown with Chancellor Angela Merkel extending measures into March. Analysis by the Munich-based Institute for Economic Research (Ifo), predicts the German economy is losing £1.3billion (€1.5billion) per week due to business being closed. Union leaders have warned thousands of firms risk going bankrupt unless measures are eased, and have called for a clear roadmap out of lockdown.

Official figures show the German government incurred £115.5billion (€130.5billion) worth of debt in 2020 – three times higher than the previous record. The shocking figures overseen by German Chancellor Angela Merkel are more than £70billion (€79billion) higher than the debt incurred in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crash.
