The Pittsburgh Steelers were in dire straits entering the 2021 season, as it pertains to their salary cap situation. They weren’t alone, but they had to do things they had never done, like add void years into contracts, but they were able to navigate the uncomfortable space and retain several of their own free agents.
The hope is the salary cap, which dipped for the first time in league history in 2021, will rebound in a big way in 2022. And if those projections are true, the Steelers could find themselves on the better side of the financial ledger. A recent report, based on projections, from the All Sports Culture, has the Steelers with the most salary cap space in the league.

We are counting down the final minutes before the Steelers make their first selection of the 2021 NFL Draft. With everyone presenting the final editions of their mock drafts, I compiled a list of as many mock drafts as I could. Before you is a hub of every local, and national media members 24th picks as well as the stuff from us here at Behind the Steel Curtain. Check it out!
National Media Mocks:
Todd McShay: Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
Teven Jenkins is tempting here. He’s a mauler on the offensive line, and the Steelers must rebuild that unit from the ground up. Ultimately, I went in a different direction because the lineman class is deep I have more than a dozen in this mock and running back is just as much of a concern. Harris is a powerful back who is nearly impossible to stop between the tackles. The Steelers’ 3.6 yards per carry ranked dead last in the NFL last season, and it doesn’t appear that James Conner is returning, currently leavin
Trey Edmunds
Yes, you read that correctly. Although I have always been one to say that the Steelers do not draft players to start Day 1, running back is entirely different monster. To invest the draft capital in Najee Harris as the Steelers chose to do, he needs to be the guy right out of the gate. While the job won’t be exactly handed to him, he will have every opportunity to be the guy in the huddle for the first offensive snap of 2021 come September.
Just to make things clear, for this depth chart fullback Derek Watt is not included as his position group is where he is a man by himself. Lumping Watt in with the running backs clouds the issue of where he would fall in the hierarchy of running backs.

The 2021 NFL draft is here! Each of the last fifteen weeks leading up to the draft, we doveinto an NFL draft class starting with the Steelers 2004 NFL draft. In doing so, each player selected by the Steelers was highlighted as to how their NFL career, or lack thereof, took shape. This week, the remaining three drafts will be combined as many of those draft choices are still with the Steelers on their rookie deals.
Part 15 of 15 will highlight the Steelers 2018 to 2020 NFL draft, talking about each class as a whole and discuss the players no longer with the organization individually.
