âI never get tired of watching that,â declared Lonnie Vincent, who has worked in The Daily Sentinel pressroom for 34 years and has been pressroom supervisor since 2007.
We were watching the press print The Nickel want ads one afternoon recently. It was several hours before the Goss would start printing the next dayâs edition of The Sentinel.
The Sentinel youâre reading today is the last edition to be printed on the Goss, which is being retired after 37 years of operation here. From now on, the Sentinel will be printed at The Montrose Daily Press.

The Daily Sentinelâs coverage of Mesa Countyâs process for hiring a new county attorney is textbook example of why people donât fully trust the media. Itâs also an example of what not to do if you want to encourage civility.
Weâll start with the critical piece of the story that was left out in the article that outlined the hiring process we went through. The Sentinel acknowledged it was a transparent process; we had public meetings and they didnât attend. What wasnât transparent was the article.
The article that ran Sunday, April 11, correctly reported that the first step we took was to invite community members to give us feedback and insight on the requisite qualifications and experiences we should consider for the county attorney. We invited people who interacted frequently with the county attorneyâs office, mostly attorneys and also our sheriff. It was a mix of Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliateds.
