Manager Mick McCarthy says players such as Jay Emmanuel-Thomas should use the influx of recent signings as a spark . The 22-year-old was left out of the 18 at Cardiff on Saturday having been a regular matchday squad member ever since he joined the club from Arsenal in the summer of 2011.
McCarthy said: “You always hope that new players coming in might spark other players and if it doesn’t it’s to their detriment, I always think. If someone coming in doesn’t make you play better, run harder and be better for it, it’s your loss.”

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he s still looking for additions to his squad, despite bringing in three players during the first week of the transfer window. Patrick Kisnorbo, David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean all made their debuts at Aston Villa on Saturday, the latter pair from the bench.
McCarthy confirmed that he’ll be looking to do more business during January as he looks to strengthen all areas of his squad: “We’re still looking and I’m delighted with the ones we’ve got.
“I think Patrick, considering that he’s not had a competitive game, he’s only played in the U21s, he’ll be all right for us. And the other two I think they’re just two quality players at Championship level.

Ando Hoping to Trigger Extra Year

No Town player could have a greater incentive to deliver eye-catching displays over the remainder of the season than winger Paul Anderson.
How he performs in the next few months will determine whether the club chooses to trigger a clause in his contract that will see him extend his stay at Portman Road for a further season.
Anderson, signed from Bristol City in July 2013 in an exchange deal that saw Jay Emmanuel-Thomas head for the West Country, said: “Technically my contract is up at the end of the season but there’s an option for the club to give me another year. It’s up to them and there is a date by which they have to let me know.
Town 1-0 Derby County Saturday, 17th Dec 2011 17:03
Keith Andrews’s ninth goal of his loan spell saw the Blues to a ground out 1-0 victory over Derby County at Portman Road. The Irishman netted just after the break of a hard-fought but not always quality game.
Arran Lee-Barrett’s return to goal in place of David Stockdale – who was starting for parent club Fulham in their game at home to Bolton - was the only change to the XI as the Blues took on manager Paul Jewell’s former club. Richard Wright was back on the bench having been out with a pec strain with third-choice Cody Cropper having undergone knee surgery yesterday.
