Rural insurer NFU Mutual says an industry-wide campaign to encourage responsible dog ownership has helped alleviate the problem. However, “horrific incidents” continue to occur on farms and crofts across Scotland.

A new survey of dog owners commissioned by NFU Mutual reveals that 64 per cent of dog owners are letting their pets roam free in the countryside, despite half of owners surveyed admitting their dog doesn’t always come back when called.

Sign Up A new scheme to promote mediation between tenant farmers and landlords has launched. The scheme, which has been developed by Scotland’s Tenant Farming Commisioner (TFC) Bob McIntosh, aims to make access to mediation easier in a bid to reduce litigation in the tenant farming sector. It follows a successful pilot scheme, run between 2018 and 2020, which demonstrated the value of mediation to resolve disputes.
