Cleveland City Council meetings, like most government meetings, shifted to virtual last year during the coronavirus pandemic.
As pandemic-related health orders are lifting at the state and local level, Cleveland City Council passed an ordinance Monday that would allow virtual and livestreamed meetings to continue even after a return to in-person proceedings.
The shift to virtual meetings has brought more engagement and interaction with the public, President Kevin Kelley, and he wants to see that continue. Council members would like to meet in person again by July, but Kelley said the council chambers firt need to be equipped to offer livestreams.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport officials on Wednesday briefed Cleveland City Council on a 20-year, $2 billion master plan to build new concourses.
A 20-year master plan for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport envisions a larger terminal, new concourses and a redesigned traffic flow into the airport campus.
The city would make the changes in phases as the airport hits passenger growth benchmarks. The total cost is estimated at $2 billion.
“I’ve seen airports in almost 100 countries,” Director of Port Control Robert Kennedy said. “I’ve had the good pleasure of working with some of the finest airport organizations in the world. And there is, in my mind, no reason that Cleveland cannot be that as well.”

“We’re spending 80 million to recover our loses from 2020 and then whatever our losses are for 2021, Cleveland City Councilman Joseph Jones said.
“We will have all of the $541 million in our possession one year from this month,” Dumas added.
On Monday, the city’s finance committee broke down what the money will be used for.
“What timeline do we anticipate of the balance of funds are not going to be used for recoverable costs?” Ward 15 Councilwoman Jenny Spencer asked. “What we do here in finances is to put them into an escrow account until decisions are made,” Dumas responded.
