Black and Hispanic people are more likely to be stopped and searched by police in Berkeley than white and Asian people, according to a city audit of the Berkeley Police Department released Thursday.
The audit also found that searches of Black and Hispanic residents are less likely to result in an arrest than searches of white and Asian residents.
Over a five-year period, Black people were stopped at significantly higher rates than their share of the population. The audit did not track city of residence for people being pulled over.
