Antifa had shown the night before just how much they cared about “black lives” when they smashed up the windows and the doors of the Boys and Girls Club in Northeast Portland, causing $20,000 in damage to the charitable institution that provides services for mostly black and Hispanic kids and their families.

But as they were smashing through the neighborhood on Tuesday night, the members of the group surrounded a police officer and got in a confrontation with him. An officer, who was on a bike, tried to get past one of them and moved him out of the way. The guy who was moved then sucker-punched another one of the cops right in the face. That brought a lot of other officers in, who came on the run, piling on the attacker. I’m guessing that made him decidedly an unhappy camper, with all those cops landing on him.

After a 396-day wait Jenny Young was finally able to make her way to Whanganui. The Whanganui-born and raised woman was masked up at Coolangatta Airport yesterday beginning a long-awaited trip home to visit a friend.
She was one of hundreds who freely crossed the Tasman on what was the first day of quarantine-free travel between New Zealand and Australia since the Covid-19 pandemic closed borders.

There was a fatal police shooting at a park in Portland Friday morning. It started when a call was placed to police reporting a white man pointing a gun in the park. Police arrived and, according to a witness who filmed the encounter, the man became irate. He was shirtless and didn’t appear to be armed at that point, though the witness said he’d seen him with a gun earlier. Police attempted to issue orders and locate then gun but when the man bent down to pick something off the ground, one of the officers shot him. The man died at the scene. As many as 250 protesters showed up at the park Friday morning while police created a line of officers to keep people out of the scene.
