The Market House at 910 Market Street also will house a new restaurant as early as February.
The market has been a clearinghouse for fresh produce and other local foods since its construction in 1870 and now is clearing space for a walk-in cooler and refrigeration units to showcase and sell additional foods in 2021. Our biggest goals are to improve the shopping experience for customers and to accommodate additional products, said Devon Stout, chairman of the Meadville Market Authority, which governs the Market House.
Ongoing renovations at the Market House included major electrical updates in 2019 and will include the installation of the new refrigeration units early this year. A $50,395 Fresh Foods Financing Initiative grant funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, fundraising and a line of credit from the city of Meadville are helping to fund the latest improvements.
