The Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest says we’re in what’s called a Preparedness Level 5.
That means most of the country’s incident management teams are already committed to other incidents.
In the event of a fire, crews would have to deal with the incident themselves, before any other resources become available.
“That’s as bad as it gets and so if we have another fire or something around here we are going to have to cobble together the appropriate response and this is not good,” said Congressman Bentz.
Congressman Bentz says the ramifications of playing with fire are far too great right now and urges people across the region to be cautious.
MEDFORD, Ore. We’re learning, the impacts from wildfire smoke are increasing in our area, over time. A new report from the DEQ shows how intense those impacts are to our air quality.
The DEQ’s report shows a trend, unhealthy air quality days are rising across Oregon. With the rise in large wildfires, doctors say breathing in wildfire smoke could be harmful long term.
Oregon’s DEQ says, in 2020 Oregonians experienced the worst air quality ever recorded in the state. While the 2020 fire season was shorter, the DEQ says it was more intense.
“We might see more intense wildfires that produce higher concentrations of smokes and so they might not last as long, but the intensity of the poor air quality could be worse,” said Tom Roick with Oregon DEQ.
LAKE COUNTY, Ore. The fires in Klamath and Lake County are growing toward the Paisley area. Thursday, its voluntary fire department in Lake County, is preparing for the worst.
The Paisley community is a small one, but firefighters are taking steps to protect it in the weeks to come.
As the massive Bootleg Fire continues to burn, the Paisley Fire Department says its biggest concern, is the Log Fire. It’s burning about 8 miles southwest of Summer Lake, nearby Highway 31. It’s almost 5,000 acres.
The threat of the Bootleg Fire pushing towards Paisley is also a concern. Firefighters are creating defensible space around 20 or so structures. It’s some of the similar work they’ve done in the past.
KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. Klamath Project farmers are getting some much-needed relief during the worsening drought. The Bureau of Reclamation has executed a $15 million agreement in drought-related funds.
They’ll be distributed to irrigators across Oregon and California. The Bureau announced the funding back in April, around the time when it said there wouldn’t be enough water to operate the ‘A’ canal.
Now the contract has been signed.
“It’s not enough it’s really far short of what’s needed to take care of the problem, but it’s very welcome and we’re glad to have it in place and we’re just continuing to search everywhere that we can to find mechanisms for additional relief,” said Paul Simmons with the Klamath Water Users Association.
