Reddit, the hugely influential internet message board platform, is opening a dedicated Australian office in Sydney.
The company’s Australian operations will include community engagement, engineering, and sales teams, to be helmed by former WooliesX head strategist David Ray.
The move comes after an explosive growth in the site’s Australian userbase, led by interest in finance ‘subreddits’ like r/AusFinance and the looser r/ASX Bets.

Reddit has made its official debut on Australian shores and brought on former marketer, digital strategist and Woolies X leader, David Ray, as its country manager.
The social news aggregation site said the decision to launch locally came after recognising the Australian market as its fourth largest user base globally, a base that’s growing 40 per cent year-on-year. Reddit also recently launched operations in Canada (March 2021) and a dedicated presence in the UK last September.

Home to Reddit’s fourth largest user base and growing at 40% every year, today Reddit officially says “G’Day” to Australia, a core market to its international growth strategy, as it open its doors to its local business, based in Sydney’s Barangaroo.
Reddit’s new Australian team launches with locally-based community, engineering and sales staff, as well as country manager, David Ray, who will join Reddit in the coming weeks from WooliesX, and has experience leading teams in Australia for Amazon, Twitter and Telstra.

Reddit has just announced that it will be opening an office in Sydney. In other words, r/Australia is happening for real.
The new office will be located in Barangaroo in Sydney, and it will be made up of local community, engineering and sales staff.
“We’ve been fortunate to experience strong organic growth from our Australian user base in recent years, and with this comes a significant opportunity to level-up our local offering in a more focussed and nuanced way,” Reddit Chief Operating officer, Jen Wong, said in a statement.
