Algoma Public Health’s Board of Health has appointed Dr. John Tuinema as Associate Medical Officer of Health for Algoma Public Health.
Board chair, Sally Hagman says starting July 2021, Dr. Tuinema will work under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jennifer Loo as a public health physician to achieve the public health mandate for the Algoma region.

Algoma Public Health announced the arrival of the first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for the district. According to APH, the province has allotted these doses to residents of long-term care homes (LTCH), as prioritized in phase one of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination program. APH reports that Algoma’s long-term care partners have been working closely with the health unit since the beginning of January and are ready to start the immunization process. “The arrival of the vaccine is great news for our community, and helps us build another strong layer of protection around our long term care residents,” said Dr. Jennifer Loo, Medical Officer of Health for Algoma Public Health.
