Several tenants of the Mosaic Apartments received a phone call on Friday saying they had to leave their units in three days because of a failed inspection. On Monday, the day on which they were supposed to leave, many of them instead stayed put and held a demonstration alongside labor activists to protest the decision.
Nicolas Alvarado was frustrated by the short notice. He and his family have lived at the South Nashville apartment complex for three years and he had renewed his one-year lease back in January. He also has a son attending Glenview Elementary School across the street. “They can’t break my contract,” he said.

Fewer than 10,000 voters in Bedford County cast a ballot during the primary election on Tuesday, according to unofficial results.
While overall vote counts â which totaled 9,587 â were comparatively low to midterm and presidential election years, Deb Brown, director of elections, said there were a high number of write-in votes, which exceeded 2,600.
Kevin Diehl of Bedford received 1,588 votes on the Republican side for Magisterial District Judge Office 57-03-2 and will appear on the ballot in November. There were 438 write-in votes for the position.
Jodi Tew of Bedford was campaigning as a write-in candidate after Diehl successfully challenged a number of signatures on her nominating petition earlier this spring to remove her from the primary Republican ballot.

A number of candidates seeking to fill roles on school boards across Bedford County submitted nomination petitions this week.
The deadline to submit petitions to appear on ballots for the May 18 primary election was on Tuesday.
Bedford Area
There are six candidates seeking four seats on the Bedford Area School District school board.
In Area I, which covers a portion of Bedford Borough, Manns Choice, a portion of Bedford Township and Harrison Township, William Ross will seek re-election and appear on both ballots. There is one seat open in the area.
In Area II, which includes a portion of Bedford Borough, a portion of Bedford Township and Snake Spring Township, C. Peder Flaaen is seeking re-election on the Republican ballot, while Jerry Bagley of Bedford filed petitions on both ballots. There is one seat open.
