Dear Parents, Guardians, and Families:
The District will be closing on Friday, April 9, 2021 and Monday, April 12, 2021 at the recommendation of Dr. Jennifer Morse. School will resume for in-person learning on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the estimated incubation period of COVID-19 is between two (2) and fourteen (14) days, with an average of five (5) days. Closing in this manner will allow for additional time to identify positive cases from spring break, isolate those positive cases, and reduce the number of asymptomatic positive COVID-19 students who are attending school during this critical incubation period. Contact tracing has already resulted in hundreds of students being quarantined, with the next few days being critical and likely to increase.

“It’s not super surprising, but it’s very disappointing,” says McKayla, who lives in Isabella County.
According to the New York Times, the Mt. Pleasant area is ninth in the nation for having the most new COVID-19 cases by population, and number one for places where cases are rising the fastest.
Jennifer Morse, medical director for the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD), says, “We have had a pretty big increase in COVID-19 cases relatively suddenly, so that will cause our increase in COVID-19 cases to show up on databases like that.”

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have change the recommendation of how long to quarantine.
After being exposed to the virus the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says you should quarantine for 14 days.
The recommendation was rolled back to 10 days but with increasing cases the MDHHS has decided to default to the CDC’s original advised quarantine period.
Dr. Jennifer Morse with the the District Health Department #10 says it also has to do with the new variants the state is seeing.
Dr. Morse says, “We’re seeing cases developing around day 11 or 12 after exposure. So just for consistency and because we’re seeing such extreme spread.”
