INDOT removes $7 5M cap on contributions to State Road 32 project in Westfield

INDOT removes $7.5M cap on contributions to State Road 32 project in Westfield FREE NEWSLETTERS April 8, 2021 The Indiana Department of Transportation and the city of Westfield will share any cost overruns related to their State Road 32 expansion project, now that the state agency has removed a cap on its contributions, an INDOT official said Monday night. Jennifer Beck, a senior project manager for INDOT, appeared before the Westfield City Council to alleviate fears that an estimated $15 million project expanding State Road 32 from two lanes to four would cost the city far more than expected. Beck said during the public comment period that INDOT will continue to contribute funds to the project beyond a previously established $7.5 million cap so long as those expenses are a result of increased bid costs and not the addition of local amenities.

Southend Labour: Two members quit within a month

TWO Southend Labour councillors have quit the party within a month, sparking fears Southend Council’s political leadership is “as stable as a deckchair on the Titanic”. Jennifer Beck - who announced the move with a “heavy heart” - joins Maggie Kelly in leaving Labour to become an non-aligned independent. Ms Beck, who represents Victoria Ward, did not disclose why she quit, but she said the dynamics of the group “at times made her feel uncomfortable”. It comes after the councillor threatened to resign in a row over transphobia. Ms Beck said:“I acknowledge that this will upset some residents of Victoria Ward and party members who assisted my campaign. I am not joining another political party and remain supportive of the majority of Labour policy both locally and nationally.
