Mark, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, has reportedly now begun conversations with the network to return for a handful of episodes as long as they agree to renew the procedural for a 19th season.
It s not known how Mark s character Gibbs stepping back will be written into the show. With ten out of the show s shortened run of 16 episodes down, fans could be in for a dramatic season finale.

NCIS spinoff, the youngest in the franchise, will officially end after wrapping its current seventh season, CBS confirmed to ET on Wednesday. The series finale will air Sunday, May 16.
“Sad to end our love affair with this phenomenal city but so grateful for all the friends we made along the way,” said series star and executive producer Scott Bakula in a statement. “I will miss the music. Big thank you to CBS for seven years.”

Season 18 s Episode 8 titled True Believer is scheduled to air two weeks from now, on Tuesday, March 2, at 8 pm only on CBS. The very mention of Jaqueline Sloane rings in the haunting reminder of actor Maria Bello s exit from the show. She allegedly had only a half-season arc this time, following which her journey as Sloane will come to an end after three long years. As her romance with Gibbs remains incomplete, one can t help but wonder just how Sloane s arc will be written off or will she die? Will Sloane move up the ladder to find success elsewhere?
