TO many quarters now, any talk of a recovery from Covid-19 would seem like fluff.
For almost two years, the world and Malaysia in particular have been mired in a pandemic that seems to be neverending, with many stops and starts of movement control orders (MCOs).
The damage caused by the virus outbreak has not only affected lives, but has also cost hundreds of billions of ringgit in losses for the Malaysian economy.
Even if there were to be a recovery, some industries will never be the same again, such as food and beverage, hospitality and perhaps even manufacturing and plantations, the two staple economic growth drivers of Malaysia.

ILLINOIS’ LAKEFRONT CHINOOK
Hi Dale,
Pete Merkel, my cousin, caught a new boat record for us today out of Winthrop Harbor. (Two photos of the fish are attached below)This king was 28 lbs and 42” long. Hit on a green/white flasher with an Aqua Howie’s fly behind a rigger. We were in 125 feet of water and the rigger was set 110 feet down. Fish took a massive initial run pulling 500+ feet of line off the reel. Great day on the water, we also got a 23 lbs king a just few minutes prior. Not a lot of bites but the two we got were awesome.
Welcome change in tone on Covid policy 26 Jul 2021 / 10:01 H.
FACED with growing case numbers and the post-Raya infections yet to emerge, the government is showing signs of a welcome change in tone on the management of the Covid-19 crisis.
The data of 17,045 new Covid-19 cases yesterday is an important and sad milestone. They give us a clear idea of a new scenario we will be facing in coming weeks, which members of Parliament would have to address in their meeting that begins today. There are three elements of caution in interpreting the daily data.
The first, daily cases are highly volatile and so it is better to look at weekly averages to smooth out the daily spikes. Nonetheless, the Health Ministry (MOH) and other experts have indicated clearly that cases will rise significantly in coming days and weeks, especially following the Raya holiday last week.
