The Breckenridge Tourism Office presented its 2021 expectation survey to the Breckenridge Town Council on Tuesday, May 25, focusing on tourism, the outdoors and quality of life for residents in a post-coronavirus era.
The survey was sent to more than 11,000 people, including year-round residents, second-home owners and residents of surrounding communities. It received 1,447 responses, with more than half coming from year-round residents of Breckenridge, though the survey is ongoing.
Jake Jorgenson, representative from RRC Associates, the data research firm that facilitated the survey, and Lucy Kay, CEO and president of the tourism office, presented the results to the council.
Breckenridge Town Council held a special meeting Tuesday, May 18, to discuss ways to increase workforce housing in the town, outlining a variety of potential solutions. The town’s main goal is to increase the proportion.

Breckenridge will not bring back Walkable Main, the pedestrian-only Main Street concept that sprung up last summer. The Breckenridge Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday, April 27, to not reinstate the walkway.
Community Development Director Mark Truckey explained in a memo to council that there have been numerous inquiries on whether the town would bring back Walkable Main. The town recently surveyed residents and businesses, asking for feedback about the concept. Results favored reintroducing the pedestrian walkway with 86% of residents and 83% of businesses that responded supporting the return of Walkable Main.
Mayor Eric Mamula countered the results of the survey by stating that there were a lot of conditions listed along with people’s support of the concept.

Breckenridge is tentatively moving forward with planning for a Fourth of July parade. along with several other traditional town events, but as the vaccination rate increases throughout the county, Breckenridge town officials hope events can start to return, even if there are changes to the events’ operations.
Bringing back the Independence Day parade is the first major event the town has discussed as a possibility for this summer. While the town planned to host its annual Ullr Fest and snow sculpture competition this past winter, the events were canceled in November when the county moved back on the state’s COVID-19 dial due to a spike in cases. Since then, most town events, including the Breck Pride and Mardi Gras festivals, were put on hold.

Breckenridge Town Council on Tuesday struck down an emergency ordinance intended to regulate amenity clubs.
The subject has been a topic of Town Council meetings for nearly a year, and while it seemed an agreement was reached at the last council work session, five council members voted “no” on a proposed amenity club ordinance at Tuesday’s council meeting after a lengthy public comment from Breckenridge Grand Vacations opposing the ordinance. While two council members stated that they didn’t agree with much of the comment, council members said they wanted to take more time to adopt an ordinance.
