These sites don’t come cheap. During a January meeting of the Board of Supervisors, Andrew Pease, executive financial director for the county’s Health and Human Services Agency, said that a superstation costs around $123,000 a day when running at peak capacity, and that each smaller site can cost $12,000 a day.
County officials have said they plan to have 1.9 million San Diegans vaccinated against the coronavirus by July and are willing to spend up to $100 million to do so though they’re hoping to be reimbursed by the state and federal government.
“We do know money is on the way,” Fletcher said. “We are not overly concerned that we will not be reimbursed.”

About 40 homeless people at the temporary shelter in the San Diego Convention Center received COVID-19 vaccinations Wednesday as the county’s first step in protecting a vulnerable population from the disease.
“I want to try to get back to normal as much as possible,” said Robert Thompson, 66, after receiving the Moderna vaccine.
“I had a little concern in the back of my mind, but I’m grateful to be able to get the vaccine,” said shelter client Lucinda Shearer, 69.
The Shelter to Home program at the Convention Center opened last April and as of Monday had 934 clients. Of those, about 85 are eligible to receive the vaccine because they are 65 and older, said Dr. Lou Gilleran, a physician for the county and medical director at the shelter.

Father Joe’s Villages will adopt a multi-level approach to ensure people in need have access to vaccinations, including vaccination events offered in congregate living shelters, in collaboration with San Diego County. The organization’s plan also includes residential, case management, day center and outreach teams providing education on vaccination to people living in its housing programs and to those on the street to encourage individuals to get vaccinated.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â Father Joe s Villages is preparing to vaccinate San Diegans experiencing homelessness once cleared by California s vaccine distribution phases.
The organization says it will launch vaccination efforts once homeless individuals who at at-risk are cleared for access. Father Joe s will initially focus on those who fall into the Phase 1B group of the state s rollout plan.
Father Joe s says it will offer vaccinations at congregate living shelters with the help of the county. Outreach teams will also provide education on vaccinations to those living at Father Joe s shelters and those living on the street.
