Animal Bill thrown out Members vote against bill during second reading
An Animal Welfare Bill, designed to be the first steps ahead of comprehensive legislation in the area in the years ahead, has been thrown out by The House of Keys.
The Bill was getting its second reading.
Before today s sitting, a controversial section on mountain hares was withdrawn by the member promoting the bill, Environment Minister Geoffrey Boot.
He said it was threatening to derail what was an important animal protection measure.
The draft of the Animal Welfare Bill 2021 proposed reclassifying the species as game rather than vermin as they re currently known.

She was elected to LegCo in 2018 for a five-year term ending on February 28, 2023. ’The experience of being a member of the Legislative Council and a member of Tynwald has given me a considerable insight into the need for change in a number of areas. Current two sitting members in the constituency are Ray Harmer (Minister Cabinet Office) and Geoffrey Boot (DEFA Minister).

Hundreds more buildings considered for registered status

More buildings could be granted protected status before the end of the current administration. It follows three sites being saved from demolition earlier this month after being deemed historically important. Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot says there are arguments for hundreds more buildings to be preserved. He spoke to Local Democracy Reporter Chris Cave:
