The fund s headquarters at 425 S. Financial Place Public employee pension funds in Illinois have enough problems without adding bad governance to the mix. That s why I m glad to see state legislators moving to tighten governance at the funds. As my colleague Greg Hinz reported May 10, Illinois House members overwhelmingly passed a bill that would impose a 12-month ban on pension board members taking jobs with a fund or any of its vendors. Long overdue, the bill would limit the ability of a pension board member to cash in on their positions by moving into lucrative employment with a private company that does business with a public pension fund. The legislation also targets another shoddy practice: pension fund trustees taking on dual roles as executives of the funds they oversee.
