FLINT, MI A Flint city councilman who’s used racial and homophobic slurs during video broadcasts on Facebook isn’t apologizing for his words but has started removing the recordings soon after they are broadcast live.
2nd Ward Councilman Maurice Davis made his remarks on what he calls the “News and Blues” broadcast, which typically includes his commentary on city business, harsh words for his political enemies, and routine profanity.

Ann Arbor is getting its first commercial marijuana consumption lounge and officials say it also will be the first of its kind in Michigan.
Plans are in the works to convert the pink house at 336 S. Ashley St. next to the Liberty Provisioning Center marijuana dispensary on the west edge of downtown into a lounge allowing onsite consumption of cannabis products.

Tolerating harm for how much longer? I was horrified to read from Richie Hardcore (NZ Herald, May 4) that up to 30,000 Kiwi children have been born with alcohol-related brain damage over the last 10 years. Imagine if 57 of our tamariki were suffering brain injuries weekly due to post-natal child abuse - surely it wouldn t be tolerated?

Seeing lack of support to have the city facilitate a community conversation about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the 2nd Ward representative voted to indefinitely table her own resolution.
In a 10-1 vote Tuesday morning, May 4, council punted on the proposal. The only one opposed was Jeff Hayner, D-1st Ward, who has previously expressed interest in taking up the issue.
