In the wake of a judge’s ruling that chastised the Winona County Board’s handling of committee appointments, the same County Board is gearing up to make new appointments to committees that handle important and sometimes controversial land-use decisions.
On January 5, the County Board is slated to vote on who to appoint to the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment (BOA) and who should be the next chair of the County Board. The chairship matters because the chair alone appoints Planning Commission members, while the full board appoints BOA members. Both bodies are called on to make important decisions that affect the environment, the economy, agriculture, and lives of local residents. These appointments are sometimes contentious, as environmentalists and property-rights supporters jockey for control of the committees. This year’s appointments come after revelations in the Daley Farm’s recent lawsuit raised new questions about the appoin
The Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad is currently in 1st place in the South Central Conference with a 3-0 record. The Panthers hope to stay in that position for the remainder of the season, but they know with challenges in January from Albia, Centerville and the rest of the conference it will be a tough road. Coach Jeff Larson tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he likes the fact that his players from top to bottom are willing to work hard and take on challenges in games to help get the team to where they want to be.
Larson:
“We have some pretty talented basketball players, but those talented players also want to work. For example down at Davis County, both Keiren and Spencer said they wanted to take Reeves and that’s a great thing that they want to take the initiative and they want to take responsibility and win the game.”
The Knoxville Basketball Squads take their longest road trip of the season to Bloomfield and face Davis County in the South Central Conference tonight. The Panthers are coming off of two very different ways of beating Chariton on Friday as the girls, after jumping out to a lead as high as 16 points held on for a ten point win, while the boys blew away the Chargers by 54 points. Girls Coach Jim Uitermarkt tells KRLS Sports the Davis County Gym has been a house or horrors for his team over the years and says hopefully they can check off one of the toughest places to play in the conference.
The Knoxville Basketball Squads look to get their first South Central Conference wins on the road this season as the Panthers travel to Chariton. Both Knoxville Squads got wins to open the conference Tuesday at home against Clarke in very different ways. The boys, after a slow start, pulled away for a 20 point win. Tonight the Panthers take on a Chariton squad that is rebuilding after several years of success. The Chargers are 0-2 having lost in blowout fashion to Clarke and Albia. Coach Jeff Larson tells KRLS Sports he is not going to worry so much about tonight’s opponent, rather how his guys play and what they can do to win the game.
