Twilio CEO speaks out, wants tech companies to stay in the Bay Area [SFGate, San Francisco]
Dec. 29 A local tech entrepreneur is upset everyone is leaving the Bay Area.
Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson has taken to Twitter and LinkedIn to call on his fellow tech leaders to keep their companies in the Bay Area and invest in San Francisco’s longevity. This comes after both Oracle and Hewlett Packard Enterprise recently announced each will relocate its headquarters to Texas and tech icon Keith Rabois declared he’s leaving San Francisco permanently because he’s finding it “impossible to stay.”
“I’m asking my colleagues, friends and fellow CEOs to #committothebay. Pledge to stay and rebuild what has given so much to us. This is what it means to be a part of a community. @twilio isn’t going anywhere,” he wrote on Dec. 18 on Twitter.

Mad Money Tuesday evening, Jim Cramer checked in with Jeff Lawson, co-founder, chairman and CEO of cloud-messaging service Twilio (TWLO) , to talk about the company and Lawson s efforts to help those in need this holiday season.
In April, Lawson helped found HelpKitchen, a charity that pays restaurants to use their excess capacity to help make meals for those in need. He said the effort has been a huge success, helping to keep restaurants in business while also feeding those who have been waiting for blocks to get meals through traditional channels.
