Staying chill: How Arizona is preparing to store vaccines at freezing temps Amanda Morris, Arizona Republic Replay Video UP NEXT HonorHealth, one of the region s major health care systems, is preparing to vaccinate thousands of health care workers and first responders as early as Thursday.  As the operator of one of five initial vaccine sites in Maricopa County, the company may be responsible for vaccinating up to 15,000 people, and one of its first challenges is keeping the vaccines cold. Very, very cold. Cold as in minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit cold.  HonorHealth expects to get doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the first COVID-19 vaccine to receive emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration. The Pfizer drug requires unusually cold storage, so HonorHealth recently purchased six ultra-low freezers for $15,000 each.
